Notts TV Sports Week
Notts TV asked if I wanted to shadow the current sound technician in running their show 'Sports Week' every Wednesday. The show is then aired at 19:30 the same day after the recording.
The running order is roughly the same every week, so I will just add in what has changed.
Wednesday March 29th 2017
09:00 - Arrived and talk about what I need to do
I arrived at 9:00 as asked of me to join the crew and see what needed doing.
I was told that what I would be doing for the show this week is shadowing the current sound technician to see what goes on and what I will be gradually building up to.
I was only observing what goes on this week so I did not actually do any of this on the first time.
09:15 - Setup and checks on the sound equipment
I learnt about where all of the equipment is stored and how to keep everything where someone knows where it is.
Collect all of the microphone packs have battery in them and are ready to use.
Collect all of the microphones needed for the guests.
Connect the microphones to the mic packs and place them where the guests will be sitting in the studio.
Collect the lead from under the desk for the presenters microphone to plug into.
Check the patch bay is ready and setup for the show as needed.
09:30 - Microphone scratch tests, miking the guests up and sound checks
Scratching the microphone from each of the mic packs and checking to see if there is a response in the control room.
Mic the guests up.
Check the levels of the guests' microphones while they are talking in the communal area.
Checking the levels for the packages in the show.
10:00 - Rehearsal with presenter
Make sure the presenter's earpiece is working and he is wearing it
Do a run through of the show with the presenter to make sure the levels are alright and so that he knows what he is saying throughout.
10:15 - Shoot the show
Run the show through with the guest and presenter and record it.
After the show is recorded a teaser needs recording so that is recorded.
11:00 - WRAP
Pack up as everything is finished.
This week there were more guests than usual, so halfway through the guests needed to be switched out and the microphones moved over to the other guests. This has not happened at any other point since starting the show for me.

Perform the scratch tests myself on the microphones

Pack up as everything is finished.
